Over the years, our firm’s been blessed with lots of happy clients who send friends and family members to us to help solve their legal problems. And of course, happy clients come back themselves. That was the case with Rich.

A few years before, we’d settled his Spartanburg workers comp case after he got electrocuted on the job. Read more about Rich's story.

Part of that settlement included free, lifetime medical care related to the electrocution.

In a somewhat surprising development, the insurance company’s lawyer called out of the blue to ask if Rich would settle free medical care for financial compensation.

That’s a hard call I leave totally up to my client. It’s such a deeply and uniquely personal decision I generally can’t make for you. After all, it’s your life and your medical care.

Rich was no exception. He's hounded by electric shock wounds on his foot he just can't shake. It forces him to limp, and he certainly can't work construction like he used to. He requires regular doctor visits and continued treatment. And he still might need more operations down the road.

But Rich gave it due consideration. He'd grown frustrated with the insurance company delaying approval for his doctor visits and really dragging its feet to get him evaluated for another potential surgery. He decided he was willing to settle, but only if the offer left him sufficiently protected. The initial offer was nowhere near what he felt he could do.

That’s where I came in. I negotiated a settlement of almost twice the first offer, giving Rich the security he sought. He feels good about the result, and he's relived he doesn't have to put up with insurance company jerking him around to get treatment when he needs it. Now he's free to find his own doctor- and he won't have to get anyone's permission to get treated.
