When you get seriously hurt on the job, workers' comp can give important benefits you need. One of them is a weekly check to help give you income when you can't work. Here's a question we get from our workers comp clients, if I'm too hurt to work can I get any income? Yes, if the workers comp doctor writes you out of work or gives you work restrictions your job can accommodate. In that situation the South Carolina workers compensation law gives you the right to a weekly check, also called temporary total disability or TTD.
Here's how it works. You become eligible when you miss eight days of work, that's calendar days not work days and it doesn't have to be eight days in a row. The amount of your check is basically two thirds of your average weekly wages. If you've got more than one job you can't work those wages are included also. You remain eligible until the doctor clears you to return to work or your job offers you work that can accommodate your restrictions. This is often called light duty.
